Teacosee aims to investigate the possible linkage between teachers’ environmental values and teachers’ competences to develop effective SEE training programs for pre- and in-service teachers. At the very end we hope to improve SEE training programs for pre- and in-service teachers expecting an impact at school level. Hence, a questionnaire (based on previous studies: Olson et al. 2020, Sass et al. 2022, etc.) will be used to assess exiting university training programs in SEE and interviews will be conducted in schools to understand how the teachers developed pupils’ values and competences regarding sustainability.

Project context

Teachers are the most important resources of the education system. They are responsible for the embedment of pedagogy and curriculum and they are the mediators of educational opportunities towards inclusivity and sustainability (Tatto, 2022). An effective training of pre-service and in-service teachers in Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEE) will, in turn, improve their students’ – and future citizens – knowledge and values towards SEE.

Project objectives

The TEACOSEE aims to construct scientific knowledge about pre- and in-service teachers’ competences and values regarding SEE in order to improve teachers and pupils training.

Methodological perspective

  • Pilot testing the Italian, Greek and French version of the questionnaire with 300 pre-service teachers
  •  Investigate the effect of existing training programs with 150by pre and post testing process with the previously piloted questionnaire
  • Investigate the school training programs about sustainability through the discourse of 12 experienced school teachers about their objectives in terms of pupils’ development of sustainability competencies and values

Last events

  • Investigate the effect of existing training programs with pre and post testing processes using the previously piloted questionnaire
  • The project has been submitted and validated by the AMU ethical committee
